Many of our clients are fantastic poets. We are privileged to share some of their poems here.
Poem by an ex-detainee (with UK partner and 3 UK born children)
Lonely depressed and stressed,
We are just trying to do our best.
We have traveled so long & hard
Only to get stuck in this glass jar.
Sitting behind these locked doors
Looking out of these weary eyes
Watching the world pass us by.
Tears are rolling down our cheeks
Because our families are out of reach.
We have been waiting for so long,
Just for someone to say you are free my sons.
Searching for a better life,
now we are trapped with all our
dreams going out of sight.
Every night before we cry
ourselves to sleep,
We ask the same question.
Just because you have the power
to do something to another
person, does it make it right?
We miss our families and our children,
longing to go home from this hell.
What should we say to our kids
Whenever they say "Daddy when are you coming home?"
We walk around in this new home
Sometimes it looks like ghost town
Trying to distract ourselves from our day to day problems.
We busy ourselves with work & play
Whenever there is nothing to do we assemble together and pray,
while others walk around with a smile all day.
Uncover our masks and you will
see the life that we all try to flee.
Sad or bad it is a disgrace,
watching our young lives going to waste.
The pain is burning, the stress is unbearable.
We are depressed and our sanity is going.
We want to give up............... but
we just keep on fighting for the
sake of our children
We are just trying to do our best.
We have traveled so long & hard
Only to get stuck in this glass jar.
Sitting behind these locked doors
Looking out of these weary eyes
Watching the world pass us by.
